Albums I’m jamming-2018

We are already 9 days into February, and I can’t believe how quickly this year has gone. I thought January was never going to end at first, but now I’m trying to figure out how it’s almost Valentine’s Day. If you read my last post then you probably saw my apology for falling a bit behind in posting, but I had to readjust my schedule a bit. School started back up for me, and I had to make sure I could work out the best way to get all my assignments finished on time. I’m trying to make up for it a bit though because if you noticed this is my second post of the week.

While the year is moving quickly, it’s still fairly early into 2018. We’ve already had some really great albums come out this year though. I thought I’d share a few of my favorites that are out along with a few I’m looking forward to.

Fall Out Boy-

Favorite Song: Wilson (Expensive Mistakes)                             Favorite Lyric: “I became such a strange shape, such a                          strange shape from trying to fit in”                                                                  This album surprised me if I’m being honest. I really wasn’t sure if I was going to like it as much as their older albums. I’m all for a band changing as the years go on because people change, but “Young and Menace” didn’t sell me on the album immediately. After listening to the entire album I can safely say it’s                            actually one of my favorite FOB albums. It has a taste of the FOB  sound along with mixing in some other styles, and I like it.

First-Aid-Kit-Ruins
First Aid Kit-Ruins

       Favorite Song: Fireworks

Favorite Lyric: “Tell me why do I keep trying To be someone I’ll          never be I keep seeing her in everyone, everyone but me”

I love the vintage feel that First Aid Kit has, and the first time I         heard their song “Emmylou” I was hooked. I was excited for               this new album to be able to hear more of the original sound             that I feel you get when you listen to them. I love how their               songs feel so simple and so complex all at the same time.        This album does not disappoint, and I have a feeling I’ll be listening                                                 to it a lot.

Speak Low if You Speak Love- Nearsighted

Favorite Song: Cannot Have it All

Favorite Lyric: “I’m afraid to fall apart I’m afraid to show that I have so many weaknesses I’m afraid of my own heart”

If you read my last post then you may have seen I was going to be mentioning a band from that post in this post. I got the chance to see Speak Low live a couple of weeks ago, and it was a phenomenal performance. I said this about them in the last post, but I love the vulnerability you see in this album. Also I’m obsessed with all the instrumentals on this album as well. I was so excited about this album that I preordered 2 album bundles for it, and it was so worth it.

Favorite Song: Tantrum

Waterparks-Entertainment

Favorite Lyric: “I’ll be your optimistic black hole full of love I can’t control Let’s keep each other safe from the world”

I’ve always liked Waterparks’ music, but this album just really made me love them even more. It’s such a solid album that holds a lot of emotion. There’s a mixture of all type’s of emotions on the album, and I love that. I love that “Tantrum” and “Lucky People” are two totally different moods, but they’re both so amazing. You can also feel all the passion that was put into both of those songs, and it’s really cool.

Don Broco-Technology

Favorite Song: Come Out to LA

Favorite Lyric: “Turn back the technology take it back back back in time to when I didn’t find that all of my friends were bothering me”

This album has some of the best beats in it. I love Don Broco’s style of music, and this album is perfect for jamming in the car. I saw Don Broco open for State Champs last year, and was really impressed by them. This album just gave me an even greater impression of them. I’m really looking forward to hearing some of these songs live next month!

Justin Timberlake-  Man of the Woods

Favorite Song: Say Something (ft. Chris Stapleton)

Favorite Lyric: “Sometimes, the greatest way to say something is to say nothing at all”

This album is so much fun, and it’s almost hard to pick a favorite song. I jammed “Filthy” and “Supplies” constantly when they came out, and then “Say  Something” quickly joined the jam session as well! The rest of the album was just as great, and I love the music video for “Man of the Woods.” I know a lot of people haven’t been too fond of the album, but I find it quite enjoyable.

Story Untold- Waves

Favorite Song: In Our Out

Favorite Lyric: “I can’t see another life for me everything I got, everything I want is who I am so bury me inside the record sleeves
cause I’m not giving up doing what I love as long as I can”

I listened to 2 songs off of this album when it came out, and immediately knew I had to buy it. If I’m being honest the first song had me sold, but the more I heard the more I loved it! I just received my copy of the album today, and I’m so excited! More people need to be talking about/listening to Story Untold! So impressive!!

Albums that I’m looking forward to:

Scotty McCreery- Seasons Change- March 16, 2018

George Ezra- Staying at Tamara’s- March 23, 2018

Snow Patrol- Wildness-May 25, 2018

Owl City- Cinematic- June 1, 2018

Chvrches, 5SOS, State Champs- nothing officially announced yet, but each have said there should be new stuff soon, and Chvrches has released an amazing song.

From what I’m seeing this year is looking as good for music as last year was. I’ve loved what I’ve heard from so many artists already, and I can’t wait for what’s to come. What are you listening to so far this year? Any albums you are really looking forward to? Let me know in the comments below or on social media!
