Sometimes you hear a band, and they immediately become one of your favorites. They just leave such an impression on you that you can’t help but want to listen to them all the time, and tell everyone about them. For me 5SOS was one of those bands. 16-17 year old me sat down one night to watch YouTube videos, and stumbled upon them. I remember watching their “Try Hard” video over and over again. Something about them captivated me, and I’ve been a big fan ever since. I never and I mean NEVER believed I’d get the chance to meet them though.
On February 22 of this year 5SOS released their latest song “Want You Back” (and I LOVE it!!!), which led to radio stations announcing that they were going to be doing radio contests so you could get the chance to meet the boys. My sister and I went crazy constantly calling in for all the contest, entering on the radio stations websites, and entering the social media contest. We hit a stroke of luck when Power 96 picked me as one of their Instagram winners, which led to us having one of the greatest days of our lives.
Today we met the band who not only gave us their amazing music, but they also introduced my sister and I to so many other bands that we love. They actually really helped to bring my sister and I closer, which is why it was so amazing that we were able to meet the guys together.
5SOS performed both “Jet Black Heart” and “Want You Back”, and it was so great getting to hear both of those live in such an intimate setting. It was also a lot of fun to hear their answers to fans questions, and to hear them joke around. It was pretty obvious that everyone there was really enjoying themselves, and having a great time. Meeting the boys was also such an amazing experience. Obviously it’s just a quick “hello”, “how are you”, “I love your music”, take a pic, and leave type of M&G, but it was still so wonderful. They were all really nice, and once again as I already said I got to meet them with my sister which made it even better!
I also have to give a big thanks to Power 96 for giving us the chance to make this magnificent day happen! They had so many people calling, entering, and commenting on social media so it means a lot that I was able to be picked as one of the winners. They were also all so friendly today, and I have to applaud them for handling all the teenage/early 20’s fangirls. There were so many of us, and I’m sure it was a bit crazy trying to get everyone situated. They did it so smoothly though, and were so nice about everything the whole time. They’re an awesome radio station, and I hope they know that they made some people really really happy today.
I’m so glad that I got the chance to meet the band that has played such a large role in my life. In fact, their song “Outer Space/Carry On” partly helped to inspire the name of my blog. It was so much fun, and I’m so thankful for the experience. Don’t ever give up on the chance of meeting your favorite artists because you never know what may happen. 16-17 year old me never expected this when she clicked on that “Try Hard” music video, and now I’m almost 22 and finally got the chance to meet them. Dreams most definitely can come true!
