I’m back!! Anyone else getting tired of me saying that? I’ll be the first to admit I’ve slacked a bit recently. I’ve been a bit busy over the past few weeks. The good new about that busyness is that it’s inspired several of the blog posts that I have lined up! Today’s inspo is from my visit to the Fox theater in Atlanta to see one of the biggest shows on Broadway at the moment. The play that the mastermind Lin Manuel Miranda wrote. That’s right! I’m talking about Hamilton.
The first time I heard the Hamilton soundtrack I thought it was brilliant. It’s not your typical Broadway style, which I feel makes it really stand out. Also putting the story of a founding father to hip hop makes that time period a thousand times more interesting. I so badly wanted a chance to see the play, but I never thought I’d get the chance. Tickets are so difficult to get. So when they announced Atlanta shows I hoped to go, but didn’t have much hope for it. Luckily my sister (who’s an even bigger Hamilton fan!!) and I have some really amazing people in our lives who did everything they could to make sure we got tickets.
On June 3rd we headed to the Fox filled with excitement to see the Angelica cast put on the Hamilton production. Walking into the theater and seeing the stage definitely left me awestruck. We ended up having a fantastic view of the stage, and if we’re being honest we were practically bouncing in our seats waiting for it to start. Finally, the lights went down, the cast took their places, the music started, and we were completely enthralled. The play had barely started, and both my sister and I already had tears in our eyes. It was so mind blowing to finally see the songs acted out live by the characters we’d grown to love. I adore all the characters in this play, but in my opinion Hercules Mulligan is one of the best characters in Act 1 followed by Lafayette. I also have a special place in my heart for the Schuyler sisters though. The people playing those characters absolutely blew me away throughout the entire act. We continued to sit through the first Act in awe. When the lights came up for intermission my sister and I couldn’t stop talking about how amazing it was and how great the cast was.
After spending the entire intermission talking about the first act it was time for the second act to start. I really should’ve brought Kleenex for the second act because we both sat there sobbing through most of it. It was just as intriguing as the first Act, and one of my favorite songs is in the second Act. I love the song “Burn” which is a song that Eliza Hamilton sings, and it’s a beautifully written song. The girl that played Eliza sang the song with so much emotion, and just absolutely killed it. I adore the original, but I definitely wish I could have a version of her singing it. I definitely shed quite a few tears during that song, and after that the tears basically didn’t stop. The last half of this play definitely messes with your emotion’s, but I still think I could watch it over and over. It’s just so well executed, and the talent that the entire cast had just blew my mind.
Overall the Angelica cast made me love the play even more, and exceeded all of my expectations. They all brought their own personalities to the characters, and made the play a real enjoyment. I laughed, cried, smiled, cried some more, and then cried again. They were all good tears though. I already had a deep appreciation for this play, but seeing it live made me love it even more. The characters, the music, the set, and just everything about the production was well done. I’m so happy that I got the chance to see this play live, and I definitely understand why so many people are going to see it. It’s so worth going to see, and if you ever get the chance to go yourself then you should definitely take it. The play makes you think about things, and just brings history to life in a phenomenal way. I definitely hope to see this play again one day, but I wish I could see the same cast again because I adored them! I’m sure all of the casts out there are great, but the Angelica cast definitely stole my heart.
Going to the Fox to see Hamilton was definitely a great experience that I’ll never forget! It was such a fantastic show with a fantastic cast, and I got to go see it with one of my favorite people! Seeing it with my sister made it even better! Is anyone else obsessed with Hamilton? Have you gone to see it or do you hope to get to see it? I’d love to hear from you so be sure to comment down below!!
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about some of my thoughts on Hamilton, and that all of you hopefully get to go see it one day! As I said at the beginning, I’ve been really busy lately. Things are starting to slow down a bit though, which means you’ll hopefully see more from me soon. Hope everyone has a great weekend! See you next time!
